One weight loss anti inflammation diet plan anchored by 20-gram protein shakes and healthy snacks leads the current dietary supplement field. It’s clinically-proven to help people lose weight safely and
keep it off.1 It includes broad online support tools of recipes, meal plans, exercise programs and lifestyle information.
Science shows for weight loss to last, it’s important to burn fat, not muscle. This diet system's products are formulated with leucine, an essential amino that has been suggested by researchers to be the key to losing weight from fat while maintaining lean body muscle. Participants on this anti-inflammatory plan lose significant inches and the right kind of weight. They maintain a strong metabolism while preserving muscle mass.1,2 .
Studies find that the high-in-fat typical American diet is a major cause of obesity, type-2 diabetes, arthritis and other diseases. Excess weight contributes to the onset of osteoarthritis and joint symptoms. It also leads to increased inflammation in existing arthritis. Fat cells release proteins that, in response to high-calorie, high-fat diets, cause constant, low-grade inflammation throughout the body, according to the Arthritis Foundation.3,4
People who are overweight increase their chances of developing arthritis in the knee four or five times higher than someone who’s not, according to WebMD. Shedding pounds can ease arthritis pain now and lower your chances of serious joint damage and surgery down the road, says Amanda Sammut, MD,chief of rheumatology at Harlem Hospital Center in New York City as quoted by R. Morgan Griffin’s WebMD article, Weight Loss Strategies for Osteoarthritis, December 14, 2017.5
An anti inflammation diet program can provide significant benefits. “A loss of just 10 pounds can take 30 to 40 pounds of pressure off your knees when you walk,” Sammut says. Weight loss may lower levels of proteins that cause swelling, even in joints that don’t carry weight. The benefits of weight loss can be dramatic. People who lose 10% of their body fat--20 pounds for a 200-pound person—can ease joint pain by half.5
Arthritis is increasing in America. But it’s not just a disease of aging--one in four (24.7 per cent) of adults 18-64 years now have arthritis. In total, arthritis affected 91.2 million (36,8 per cent of US adults) in 2015,
including 61.1 million of those aged 18-64 years, according to a study funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).6
This estimate is 68% higher than the previous estimate of 52.9 million American adults with diagnosed arthritis. This higher prevalence is due in large part to the previous underestimate of arthritis in adults under 65 years of age, the researchers noted.6
High fat diets contribute to excess weight, which contributes to inflammation, which contributes to the development of arthritis, which contributes to more pain. The recommended anti inflammation diet plan, combined with a few lifestyle changes, is especially beneficial to overweight or obese arthritis patients.
Millions of Americans could benefit from weight loss by changing to an anti-inflammation diet program. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the prevalence of obesity affected about 93.3 million (39.8 per cent of US adults) in 2015-2016. Obesity-related conditions include arthritis, heart disease, stroke, type-2 diabetes and certain types of cancer, most of which are some of the leading causes of preventable, premature death.8
Losing weight is challenging for many people, but even more daunting for those living with painful arthritis. Carrying extra pounds can have a big impact on how people feel, physically and mentally..
Health professionals agree that widespread efforts to combat obesity are necessary. Low calorie organic protein shakes are excellent meal replacement options that are healthy and filling.
For individuals, one of the keys is to break the “fad diet’ mentality and make lifestyle changes that can be kept up for the long haul, said Joy Dubrost, a registered dietitian and member of the American Society for Nutrition. “Focus on eating a more plant-based diet,” she advised. “That doesn’t mean you have to become a vegetarian. Just eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, and nuts and seeds.” 7
Addressing the growing trend of children becoming overweight, she said parents should set an example. Having kids help with shopping and preparing healthy meals—from an early age—can help them learn about a healthful diet, Dubrost said.7
Choosing the right foods and getting some exercise provides relief from arthritis symptoms while you lose weight, according to a medically-reviewed article in Everyday Health. 9
Fruits and vegetables offer fiber, vitamins, and minerals that keep you healthy and help you lose weight, said nutritionist Lona Sandon, RD, assistant professor of clinical nutrition at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. “Some studies have even found that vegetarian-based diets help alleviate symptoms of arthritis while helping you lose weight,” she continued.9
Sandon has rheumatoid arthritis and knows first-hand how foods can have a powerful effect on arthritis symptoms. “I know that when you follow and maintain a healthy diet, you’re healthier and more flexible than people who don’t make changes,” she added.
In addition to fruits and vegetables, Sandon recommends eating foods high in omega-3 fatty acids, including 12 ounces per week of salmon and other deep-water fish, walnuts, ground flaxseed or flaxseed oil and olive oil (the latter two limited to two tablespoons daily)9
Getting active is just as important as eating well for both weight loss and arthritis. “If you can strengthen your muscles, you take a load off of your joints,” said Robert H. Carter, MD, deputy director of the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases.9
Dr. Carter recommends adding the following calorie-burning activity into your day without hurting your joints.
Although weight loss can seem like an impossible task when you have sore joints, making a few small changes in your diet and exercise routine can provide big relief.
“It’s quite clear that being overweight is a major risk factor for arthritis,” Dr. Carter observed. “More weight puts more pressure on your joints, and extra body fat increases inflammation in the body. Inflammation is associated with both osteoarthritis (when the cartilage between the bones at your joint wears away) and inflammatory arthritis (arthritis that’s marked by swollen, warm joints like rheumatoid arthritis, Dr. Carter explained.9
Choose the right inflammation-fighting foods and you may be able to reduce your risk of illness. Consistently pick the wrong ones, and you could accelerate the inflammatory disease process, according to Dr. Frank Hu, professor of nutrition and epidemiology in the Department of Nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health.10
Avoid or limit as much as possible these foods that cause inflammation:
Not surprisingly, the same foods that cause inflammation are generally considered bad for our health and contribute to weight gain, which in itself is a risk factor for inflammation.
Instead, Dr. Hu recommends an anti inflammation diet. “Many experimental studies have shown that components of foods or beverages may have anti-inflammatory effects,” Hu said, while recommending the following diet.
Include these anti-inflammation diet foods:
One caution when considering anti inflammation diet products: The dietary supplement market suffers from rogue players who take advantage of unaware consumers, weak industry regulations, and poorly-funded Food and Drug Administration (FDA) oversight.
Fraudulent arthritis weight loss products represent the second-most implicated of all supplements contaminated by the intentional addition of undeclared pharmaceuticals.
An investigative study using data from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) discovered 746 dietary supplement brands spiked with drugs between 2007 and 2016 were produced by 146 companies. Supplements marketed for weight loss accounted for 41% (second only to sexual enhancement at 46%). There were also 14 products marketed for other indications, primarily joint or muscle pain. The results were published in the online Journal of the American Medical Association’s JAMA Network Open, October 12, 2018 11
“Active pharmaceuticals continue to be identified in contaminated dietary supplements, even after FDA warnings,” the researchers concluded while commenting on the lack of supplement quality and safety: “These products have the potential to cause severe adverse health effects owing to accidental misuse, overuse, or interaction with other medications, underlying health conditions, or other drugs within the same dietary supplement.”11
If you are a consumer interested in anti inflammation diet supplements, a partial list of 349 drug-spiked weight loss brands can be found on the FDA web page, Tainted Weight Loss Products.12 On a different FDA web page, the agency provides updated consumer information entitled Questions and Answers about FDA's Initiative Against Contaminated Weight Loss Products.13
"These product are masquerading as dietary supplements--they may look like dietary supplements, but they are not legal dietary supplements," says Michael Levy, director of FDA's Division of New Drugs and Labeling Compliance. "Some of these products contain hidden prescription ingredients at levels much higher than those found in an approved drug product and are dangerous. We need consumers to be aware of these dangerous products and learn how to identify and avoid them," Levy said.14

A key component in the product line is the amino acid leucine, clinically-tested to help keep muscle while burning fat and losing inches. The best kind of weight loss is when you lose fat but keep muscle—most conventional diet plans burn fat and muscle, which contributes to the yo yo affect. Researchers in a 2016 study said: “If you’re not getting enough complete protein with all nine essential amino acids, you’re not giving your body the building blocks to build muscle efficiently. If you’re losing weight, you’ll lose even more muscle.15,16
